Dream holiday - Greece

Two years ago I went on the most memorable holiday to Greece. Together with my friends we chose to visit Kefallonia and Lefkada, two islands in the Ionian Sea. We didn't know much about the Ionian Islands and I don't even know how we took the decision (divine inspiration maybe?) but we got there. The journey was rather tough because we had to drive from Romania to Greece. On the way we passed through Bulgaria and that was the most difficult part of the journey. When you visit Bulgaria by car you get a sensation that it's a no man's land. Most of their roads are remote and many dangers lie ahead. So my advice is that you take the plane.


 

It's opposite of Italy so if you can prolongue your vacation, try taking the ferry to Kefallonia or Lefkada and you'll have a blast.
Lefkada has always been the Greek's destination so there aren't so many foreign tourists thus they prefer Zakynthos (Zante) or Corfu (Kerkyra).

What to do there

Okay. You are there. What to do?  Well, if you got there by plane you will need a mean of transport. Kefallonia and Lefkada are not places where you go to lie down in the sun all day long. No, no! These are islands full of life and you will find many things to explore. For instance, I opted for a more adventurous holiday. In my case it was a different beach every day, two caves, one waterfall and many beautiful villages.  Next I'm gonna try to act like a tour guide and show you some of the places and activities that caught my eye.

How to get there

By car: I recommend it only if you live close to Greece. In my case, there was one country between Greece and Romania and it was more cheap to go by car than by plane.

More about the Ionian Sea

The Ionian Sea is a part of the Mediterranean Sea positioned south of the Adriatic Sea, and bordered by southern Italy and Sicily in the west, and by Albania and Greece in the east. 

The Ionian Islands stretch along the eastern edges of the sea; the main islands are Corfu, Lefkada, Kefallonia and Zakynthos.

The distance from Catania to Zakynthos Island is 496 km (308 mi), and from the southern tip of the Salento Peninsula to Corfu Town is 129 km (80 mi). The sea has a maximum depth of 4,900 m (16,000 ft.).
